Youth aging out of foster care face a heightened risk of homelessness due to the abrupt loss of housing, financial assistance, case management, and relational support upon exiting care commonly referred to as the support cliff. Unlike their peers, who often rely on family well into adulthood, these young people are expected to achieve independence prematurely while navigating systemic barriers such as limited affordable housing, fragmented services, and unresolved trauma. Without continued guidance or a safety net, even minor setbacks can quickly lead to housing instability. This program is essential to disrupting the foster care to homelessness pipeline by replacing the support cliff with coordinated, trauma-informed, and developmentally appropriate supports that promote stability, self-sufficiency, and long-term success.
